The Hunt for Red October (Sunset, Saturday, 30 October 2010)
The title started out as a joke. I got up from a nap about 30 minutes before sunset and the light out my (east-facing) window seemed so dim, I thought I might be painting a gray sunset. I thought, maybe I’ll call it “The Hunt for Red October” – as in, good luck finding any color. (Haven’t read the book.) Then, after the sky went through a blue and dirty burnt vanilla phase at sunset, this happened, and the title was no longer ironic.
